Today we harvested the vermicompost from our worm bin. We got bucketfuls of compost for the Heart Garden, all from composting our veggie and fruit waste from our lunches!
We also finished reading Marty McGuire Digs Worms and celebrated with a Worms ‘N Dirt snack!
Our classroom is now home to 67 butterfly larvae! We mixed up the food and placed the larvae in their new homes. Soon they will grow into caterpillars and in two weeks they will change into a chrysalis. A week after that, if all goes well, we should have butterflies!
Today we had a visit from Mr. Wenarchuk who raises pigeons! He brought in a bunch of different pigeons to show to the class. We learned about the different kinds of pigeons and how to train them. Then we went outside and let the pigeons go! They circled the field and then headed back to Mr. Wenarchuk’s house! It was an amazing presentation! We have a whole new appreciation for pigeons!
The Tomatosphere tomatoes have sprouted! Now we’re trying to guess which seeds went into space based on their germination rates.
The worms are working hard turning our garbage into soil!
